2ND BIENNIAL LECTURE OF THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY
HEALTH AND PRIMARY HEALTH CARE (LASUCOM)

The Department of Community Health and Primary Health Care, DCHPHC, of the Lagos State University College of Medicine, LASUCOM heartily announces the celebration of the Dr. Chief Soboyejo’s endowment 2nd Biennial Lecture. The late Dr. Chief Soboyejo who was the First Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health of the Lagos State, gave a generous donation in March, 2003 to the Department for which he is greatly appreciated and graciously remembered. The fund was specifically endowed to take care of the following:

  1. establishment of the Olujimi Akanbi Soboyejo Prize Award which comprises a cash award and a plaque to the best undergraduate student in Community Health and Primary Health Care.
  2. the Olujimi Soboyejo biennial lecture.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE BIENNIAL LECTURE

  1. To talk on a contemporary topic in the field of public health which can provide a forum for further discussion by lay people in the society;
  2. To serve as an inspirational and educational address or harangue for the public;
  3. To show to the public what an endowment to the University or to the College can achieve i.e. it is an opportunity for people in the society to know what Dr. Soboyejo has donated and an avenue for others to donate generously to the University and the College in particular; and
  4. The biennial lecture is also targeted to commemorate the birthday of Late Dr. Soboyejo (23rd, August) hence, the choice of the month of August is set aside for the biennial lecture.

This 2nd Biennial Lecture, which promises to be most remarkable, will be held under the Distinguished Chairmanship of Professor Lateef Akanni Hussain, Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University.

A Professor of international repute and an erudite scholar, Prof. Adetokunbo O. Lucas, OFR, MD, DSc. will deliver the 2nd biennial lecture.

Lecture Title:             Modern Epidemiology in Nigeria: Shedding Light on The Dark Spectre of Disease, Disability and Death.
Venue:                       AGIP Recital Hall, MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos.
Date:                           Wednesday, 22nd August, 2007.
Time:                          9.00 am.

The celebration promises to be a grand and unique opportunity for the Town to meet the Gown in a convivial atmosphere. Eminent personalities from all walks of life have been invited to the occasion.

University Dons and Fellows of the Postgraduate Medical Colleges, who wish to take part in the academic procession are advised to adorn themselves with their appropriate academic and professional gowns.
